Lassen Canyon Nursery has increased its commercial hay operation to over 930 acres. The hay ranches are in Redding, and McArthur, California in Shasta County and Shastina, California in Siskiyou County. We grow about 240 acres of grass hay in Redding. That hay is usually harvested in June. In 2009 we are not cutting hay in this location because of the drought. At our McArthur ranch Lassen is growing 280 acres of wheat hay and 96 acres of alfalfa hay. That hay is harvested in late June and early July. We expect to get only about two cuttings of alfalfa hay this year since the field was newly seeded. At our Shastina Ranch in Siskiyou County we will harvest 150 acres of wheat hay and 260 acres of alfalfa hay. This hay will be harvested in July through the fall. The hay is suitable for all livestock including horses.
